This Sunday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zhelensky denounced Belarus as being “drawn into war” in Ukraine. In a statement to the Belarusian people, the head of state announced that “the Kremlin has already decided that Minsk will take part in the attack.”
In his address to the nation, Volodymyr Zhelensky called for the uprising of the Belarusian people, “not slave or cannon fodder.” “You don’t have to die. “You can prevent them from deciding what awaits you next,” he said, adding that “everything depends on the citizens of Belarus.”. “I know they can refuse to take part in this war. Your life belongs to you, not to the Kremlin. He acknowledged that their numbers were not enough to defeat Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.
“I know the people of Belarus support Ukraine, they support us, not the war,” he said. “That is why the Russian leadership wants to take all Belarusians to war. They want to sow hatred among us,” he warned.
Volodymyr Zhelensky promised that Ukraine would “defend itself against attacks from any direction and from any weapon.” “I firmly believe that we will tolerate and restore everything,” the Ukrainian president underlined. “Any person, in any country, especially any ordinary person in Belarus, can contribute to the preservation of life.”
On Saturday, the Belarussian president met with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. The two leaders discussed security issues in Europe and the Russian head of state promised to send military-capable missile systems to Belarusian territory.
Regarding the attack on Kiev, Volodymyr Zhelensky mocked what happened: “The world’s second largest army has successfully ‘defeated a kindergarten and residential center.” Ukraine’s president has said a 37 – year – old man was killed and a seven-year-old “Russian citizen” was injured in the attack. “She was not threatened in our country until Russia decided that women, children, kindergarten, hospitals, railways – everything was hostile. She was completely safe.”
Volodymyr Zelensky said that “missiles also hit the Mykolaiv region, the Chernihiv region, Odessa and Cherkasy”, and called on the international community to send “modern and effective” air defense systems to protect Ukraine from air strikes.
