In Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Tuesday, a woman took her dead uncle in a wheelchair and tried to get a loan of 17 thousand reais (3024 euros) from the bank. Erica de Souza Vieira was later arrested by civil police, according to CNN Brazil.
Suspicious, the staff filmed the incident.
Érika would simulate a conversation with the man and ask the old man to sign the paper. “If you don't sign, no way, I can't sign for you,” he said.
The staff, suspicious, said the man was unwell, to which the woman replied, “How is he?”
According to officials cited by CNN Brazil, the man had been dead “for a while” when he arrived at the bank.
“She tried to pretend that she had already taken the loan. But the people at the bank thought she was unwell. The doctor who reached the spot found her dead. It seems she had been dead for a few hours or in other words, she had already entered the bank,” said the person in charge of the case.
The old man's body was taken to the Forensic Institute to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.
Erika De Souza Vieira has already been charged with a crime under the Brazilian Penal Code that includes desecration of a corpse. The woman faces up to 13 years in prison.
