Walgreens to permanently close 4 locations in Louisville in November | News

Louisville, Kentucky (WDRB) – Walgreens will permanently close four of its Louisville locations next month.

The company said its store is at 4149 Taylor Blvd. , near Bluegrass Avenue between Beechmont and Hazelwood in southwest Louisville, will close November 7.

The store, located at 7500 Terry Road, near Greenwood Road in the Pleasure Ridge Park neighborhood, will close on November 9.

The 700 Algonquin Parkway site, on Taylor Boulevard in the Taylor Berry neighborhood near Churchill Downs, will close on November 14.

The store will close at 200 East Broadway and South Brook Street in downtown Louisville on November 17.

Walgreens cited changes in the market and customer needs as reasons for the shutdown.

“As we expand as a leading healthcare company, we are focused on best meeting the needs of patients and customers in the communities we serve by creating an appropriate network of stores in appropriate locations,” a company spokesperson said in a statement emailed to WDRB News. “When faced with the challenging task of closing a particular location, many factors are taken into consideration, including things like local market dynamics and changes in the buying habits of our patients and customers, for example.”

The company said customers will send their prescriptions to the nearest Walgreens, and will be notified of the change.

“In most cases, patients do not need to take any action. We automatically transfer their pharmacy files to the nearest Walgreens,” the spokesperson continued in his statement. “Patients receive notification of any changes by mail and other means to provide details about continued access to prescriptions and other services.”
