UA 48-year-old man was hospitalized after detonating an unidentified explosive device in the village of Verkny Byrak in the Kharkiv region of Ukraine.
Ukraine’s national emergency service said on the Telegram platform that the victim “detonated himself with an unknown device” after finding it in tall grass near his backyard garden.
The man was injured and the incident is under investigation, and they warned: “Be very careful, especially in areas where hostilities are taking place. There is a high risk of landmines.”
Russian troops laid the world’s largest minefields during their invasion of Ukraine, causing massive problems for Kiev’s forces and great danger to civilians.
The ongoing Russian military offensive on Ukrainian territory, which began on February 24 last year, has plunged Europe into what is considered the worst security crisis since World War II (1939-1945).
Ukraine’s Western allies have supplied weapons to Kiev and are trying to undermine Moscow’s ability to finance the war effort by authorizing a series of sanctions against Russian interests.
