Trading frenzy in Argentina leads government to intervene: Messi 300 euros on black market – World Cup 2022

Kiosks and panini stand up in arms

World Cup geek fever seems to have gotten out of control in Argentina, and even the government had to step in to mediate a conflict between panini and kiosks in the country. According to the newspaper ‘El Pais’, demand exceeded all expectations and prices on the black market soared. A Messi sticker sells for over 300 euros. But the kiosk war is also bad, with Panini accusing the company of benefiting from other points of sale like supermarkets, gas stations and internet apps.

The Spanish newspaper spoke to a kiosk owner in downtown Buenos Aires who said he sold all the boxes he received in one day. Dealing with angry customers who don’t show up on time to buy is bad…

He said many individuals tried to destroy his establishment, violence recorded in other parts of the country. The kiosks don’t get enough stickers and blame Panini’s lack of loyalty for not prioritizing traditional vendors.

There are those who say the increase in demand may be related to what could be Lionel Messi’s last World Cup, but there are also those who argue that the lack of stickers is due to Panini’s sales promotion strategy.

The Commerce Secretary signaled the government’s intention to mediate the dispute. With the aim of “finding possible solutions”, it gathered the union of kiosks from Argentina and representatives of Panini at the same table.

But the meeting also merited criticism from other sectors of society who felt the government should be concerned with more pressing issues like inflation rather than the sticker issue.
