These three 2 euro coins are worth a fortune: see if you have any

Collecting coins has, over the years, been a hobby widely shared by many people: while many people choose to collect cheap numismatic pieces, there are others who seek out specific pieces that, if in good condition, can fetch hundreds of euros.

Some of these ‘jewels’ may go unnoticed in the hands of people who don’t know how much these coins are worth in the numismatic market. Especially if they are limited edition, i.e. a small number of copies, because they are commemorative, because of their rarity or because of small errors that have been removed from the market, the price will go up.

Regardless of their face value, there are some coins that can bring you a significant profit: Euro coins become collector’s items and reach 3,000 euros. So, watch your wallet, suggested Spanish newspaper ‘ABC’: these three 2 euro coins will make all the difference.

The most expensive 2 euro coin in the world

If there was a 2 euro coin that could surprise citizens, it would honor Grace Kelly. The commemorative coin was minted in 2007 in Monaco, after she became the country’s princess consort following her marriage to Rainier III.

On the 25th anniversary of his death, the European Central Bank released this collector’s jewel, copies of which are very limited: only 20,001 copies were produced. With a nominal value of 2 Euros, the rarity of this coin made its price rise on the market, reaching a value of over 2,700 Euros.

More than 2 thousand euros for the wrong currency

Printing errors may cause some coins to be revalued. This is what happened to a coin for the Zuvintas Biosphere Reserve issued by the Central Bank of Latvia in 2021, which contained incorrect text on some of the printed units.

In 500 copies of more than 500 thousand mints, “Laisvé, Vienybé, Gerové” (translated as “Freedom, Unity, Prosperity”) is inscribed, instead of what should actually appear: “Dievs, sveti, latviju” (translated as “God bless Latvia”). This error increased its value on the numismatic market to 2,000 euros.

A commemorative coin that costs more than a thousand euros

The Grace Kelly coin isn’t the only commemorative coin that has increased in value over time. In fact, Monaco produced another valuable coin currently on the market: the 2015 Monaco €2 coin.

An image of Monaco’s Rocky Castle is engraved on the coin and was issued on its 800th anniversary. Only 10,000 copies were released and only a few were for sale at a time. Over the years, the value of this coin has increased and can now exceed a thousand euros
