Tetyana Mutrenko was known for not bowing to the aggressors
Initially captured by Russian forces War in UkraineA Kherson region Now a scene of terror. Although troops are expected to be withdrawn from Moscow, residents there have not forgotten what the past few months have been like.
Such is the case of Natalia Zorna, who from the beginning warned her sister about complaints and protests against the Russian presence in the region. Warnings in vain for Tetyana Mudryenko dying in a public square for claiming her hometown of Skadovsk as Ukrainian territory.
Indeed, since September 30, following referendums criticized by the international community, Russia has not recognized this situation, having annexed the region, as in Donetsk, Luhansk and Zaporizhia.
According to several witnesses and Natalia Zorna, Tetyana Mudryenko was dragged through the streets by officers of the Moscow-appointed authorities and hanged in a public execution.
“In busy Skadovsk, you can’t have your say,” says Natalia Sorna. Financial TimesHe reported a dire situation in the area for anyone who dared to challenge the Kremlin’s imposed authority.
For Tetyana Mudrienko, the outcome is grim, but survivors continue to face threats: some 15,000 people in the coastal village are arrested or robbed of their belongings every day while demonstrating against the occupiers.
In the case of this woman, a pediatrician by profession, her death was the result of several skirmishes with Russian troops. Natalya Sorna remembers how Tetyana Mudrienko confronted a group of Russian soldiers one day, both wearing balaclavas.
“She looked at the orc in his eyes and said, ‘Why are you here? Are you going to shoot me?'” the sister recalled, then described the most recent case, just before the woman’s death. Tetyana Mudryenko insulted a Ukrainian policeman and shouted, “Skadovsk is Ukraine.” Natalya Sorna knew everything from afar since she fled to Dnipro in April, and she also knew from afar that her sister had been taken away with her husband by Ukrainian police who collaborated with Russia.
Nobody knew about the couple for several days, and a week later, Natalia Sorna received a call from a woman who said that her sister had been hanged in the public square.
“They put something in her mouth and then hanged her in front of the court,” she said, adding that her sister’s husband was released with a broken arm and other signs of violence. After that he was allowed to bury the woman’s body.
Desperate to know what had happened, Natalia Sorna called the local morgue to confirm her sister’s death. At the service, they began by refusing to speak to her, but confirmed death, saying the cause of death was “mechanical asphyxiation,” meaning strong pressure was applied to the victim’s neck.
Natalia Sorna could not confirm the veracity of the story, but the Financial Times has reviewed the death certificate and text messages that corroborate the execution version.
Tetyana Mutriyenko’s case is one of many. The non-governmental organization Media Initiative for Human Rights recorded what the Information Services said was “several cases of killing and torture during the occupation” in the Kherson region on October 14.
At the same time, Russian soldiers have occupied the homes of those who fled to Kiev-controlled territory or were deported to Crimea after agreeing to withdraw from areas on the west bank of the Dnieper River. Skadovsk, in an area with a strong Russian presence, is less than 100 kilometers from the peninsula, which was annexed by Russia in 2014. Even if Kherson was liberated, the village would remain in Russian hands for a long time, as it was far from the front. War tax.
If it’s hard to get there, it will be even more so in the future. Skadovsk will be the new zone for the establishment of Russian administration in the Kherson region, and the forces of Moscow, the main city of the zone of the same name, will immediately withdraw.
