Oh The State Department (USA) on Thursday confirmed that it was aware of cases involving US citizens detained by Russian troops in Ukraine.
According to spokeswoman Nate Price, “there are reports that US citizens have been detained by Russian forces in Ukraine.” “They are being withdrawn to Russia or Belarus via occupied Russian territory,” he added.
“Russian government security officials in Ukraine and Russia can select U.S. citizens based on their nationality. We reiterate our urgent need for all US citizens in Russia and Ukraine to leave immediately,” he warned.
The official says there were “detained and already released American citizens” in Ukraine, but as for Russia, “there are some cases” and can not “proceed with a number”.
This Thursday marks the 36th day since the start of the Russian invasion. Russia’s military offensive in Ukraine has already killed at least 1,232 civilians and wounded 1,935, according to UN figures. There are still more than 4 million refugees in neighboring countries and about 6.5 million refugees have been internally displaced.
