The “speed factor” in a fatal accident involves UGA football players and staff

According to the police report, the two front seat passengers, LeCroy and McClendon, were wearing lap and shoulder seat belts. The two backseat passengers, Willock and Bowles, were not wearing seat belts. All airbags deployed.

The police report said the owner was Ean Holding of Belleville, Ill. It is an affiliated company of Enterprise Car Rental. In the insurance section of the crash report, it is listed as self-locking.

The investigation determined that the “excessive speed” and initial contact made with the curb and tree in the path of the revolving vehicle were the “most harmful” to cause fatal injuries. The posted top speed in the area is 40 mph, but police didn’t say how fast the SUV might have been going when it crashed at 2:45 a.m. Sunday.

Emergency responders were dispatched at 2:48 AM and arrived at 2:55 AM. A spokesperson for the Athens-Clark County Sheriff’s Office said there were no clear indications alcohol was involved in the incident.

Clark County Coroner Sonny Wilson said routine toxicology testing was performed on the driver. Wilson said this is the protocol when a driver is killed in a crash. The results of these poisons can be expected to take several weeks to complete.

Wilson said no autopsies were performed on those killed in the crash.

The expedition also crashed a 2017 Ford Transit truck into the parking lot of the apartment complex where it was resting.

Police said the incident is still under investigation.

Funeral services will be for 24-year-old LeCroy held on Wednesday in Toccoa. A memorial service is being planned for Willock but no details have been released. The team bus will take the Georgia players to the funeral.
