UA man who sexually assaulted a homeless woman on her birthday night in Cardiff, Wales has been jailed for 15 years.
According to Sky News, the man, identified as Liam Stimpson, singled out the “vulnerable and lonely” woman by claiming to buy her food. Then, in the early hours of December 27 last year, he assaulted her under an isolated railway bridge.
South Wales Police Inspector Catherine Barry said Stimpson was a “tragic predator” who carried out a “brutal attack”. The man “inflicted very serious facial injuries on her, sexually assaulted her, threatened her, intimidated and humiliated her.”
“The position of the victim is that at the beginning of the investigation, he had difficulty in giving us information. We have a lot of faith in the public who intervened and saved his life, and who I think can provide more information about their movements,” he said.
But the inspector went further, telling officers the images of the attack were “one of the most distressing” he had seen in his 21-year career.
This Monday, the man was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court.
