The Pokémon Company is looking to hire someone with NFT knowledge

The Pokémon Company International opened a new job listing for a company development manager a few days ago, and it seems that the position requires the candidate to be familiar with Web3, including blockchain.

The list is monitored TPCi Greenhouse Page (via linkedin) where all the company’s job listings are posted, and caught the attention of many Pokémon fans online thanks @employee on Twitter. At first, the job description seems innocuous, as the role specializes in corporate strategy, relationships, development and innovation. However in the What You’ll Bring section, it appears that one of the requirements is that the successful candidate should be familiar with the Web3 world.

Under the third point, the job listing states that you will bring “a deep knowledge and understanding of Web 3, including blockchain, NFT, and/or metaverse technologies.” And at the bottom, it states that a person must also be “deeply connected” to others in Web3 and the metaverse spaces.

It may not have been the news many Pokemon fans were looking for. Last year, the Pokémon Company took an Australian company to court over an NFT game that was promoting an upcoming NFT game called PokéWorld.

This isn’t to say that TPCi – a subsidiary of the larger Pokémon Company – plans to move into the blockchain industry just yet, but this listing suggests that it would likely be interested in dipping its toes. Pokémon video games, with Nintendo serving as publisher along with The Pokémon Company. Pokémon, of course, aren’t just video games – there’s a wide range of merchandise and media under the Pokémon umbrella, and a “catch them all” aspect. may be Just lends itself to the metaverse and blockchain.
