Police are investigating after an SUV crashed into an Apple store in Hingham Derby Street just before 11am on Monday. Video from Sky 5 showed a large hole in the store’s glass front. There were several people on the floor outside the store being tended to by dozens of first responders at the scene. Several people were removed on stretchers and taken to ambulances. At least five people were injured in the accident. A nurse at South Shore Hospital told WCVB that they expect between seven and 10 victims to be taken to their emergency room. The store was scheduled to open at 10 am on Monday, and the accident occurred less than an hour after it opened. It is not clear how far the car had traveled to the store. A tow truck was positioned outside the store. The crime bar blocked off a large swath of the parking lot surrounding the Apple Store. Frank O’Brien, who was shopping on Derby Street at the time, told the Patriot Ledger that he wondered how fast the car would have to go to pass the glass in front of the store. It ended up in the storage area at the back of the Apple Store.” A person who was inside the store at the time of the accident said the SUV appeared to be moving at high speed when it collided. Another witness said the driver appeared injured but alert after the crash. Another witness said he was Outside “it was like a big explosion.” One woman, whose 32-year-old son was in the Hingham Apple Store, outside South Shore Hospital, was desperate for information on him. She told WCVB’s Peter Iliopoulos she hadn’t been able to reach him since The Plymouth County Prosecutor, Tim Crews, was at the scene speaking with investigators.Derby Street Shops at 92-98 Derby Street in Hingham, is a collection of 64 shops and restaurants.The 4,000-square-foot Apple Store is located in the part Back of outdoor shopping arcade next to Burton’s Grill, opened in 2006.

“You had to really pick up speed to end up in the storage area at the back of the Apple Store,” he said.

One woman, whose 32-year-old son was in the Hingham Apple Store, outside South Shore Hospital, was desperate for information on him. She told WCVB’s Peter Eliopoulos that she has not been able to reach him since the accident.
Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz was at the scene speaking with investigators.
