The Broncos fired two coaches after parting ways with head coach Nathaniel Hackett

The team announced that special teams coordinator Dwayne Stokes and offensive line coach Butch Barry were relieved of their duties.

It was the first time in his coaching career that Stukes was coordinator with a team.

The Stukes earned the Broncos promotion before this season even started, but will now be looking for a new team to join.

Like the Stukes, Barry also earned a promotion with the Broncos this season after serving as the assistant offensive line coach for the San Francisco 49ers last season.

Barry was the offensive line coach for the University of Miami during the 2019 season, while also serving as a senior analyst at Green Bay Packers during the 2020 campaign.

It’s an interesting move by the Broncos going forward with these moves, since there are still two games on the schedule. But, with Hackett now gone and Jerry Rosberg taking over as interim head coach, Denver clearly doesn’t mind making some changes now.

Offensive coordinator Justin Otten and defensive coordinator Ejiro Eveiro, who both reportedly turned down the interim coach position, remain in the building for the time being.

The Broncos’ small home cleanup comes on the heels of a 51-14 blowout loss to the Rams on Christmas Day, a game in which Russell Wilson threw three interceptions and Los Angeles scored a goal in every offensive drive they’ve put together.

The Broncos are now 4-11 on the season and are already eliminated from playoff contention. To make matters worse, they won’t be as high-profile in the first round of this year’s draft as they spent a boatload of draft capital and more to snag Wilson this past season.

They also signed him to a whopping five-year, $245 million extension, with $165 million guaranteed.

In a statement, Broncos owner and CEO Greg Penner said, “After extensive conversations with George [Paton] And our ownership group, we determined that the new direction would ultimately be in the best interest of the Broncos.”
