Super Mario Movie: Nintendo announces live premiere promo, reveals highly detailed poster

Nintendo has announced a Nintendo Direct to reveal the first trailer for Super Mario Bros. She has unveiled a poster with tons of fine details.

In conjunction with its appearance at New York Comic-Con, Nintendo will Start the live broadcast 1:05pm PST / 4:05pm ET / 9:05pm UK. It’s not clear if Direct will simply consist of the trailer, or if it will add more information. One thing that is clear about Nintendo is that it won’t show any game news.

As you can see in the announcement tweet, we’ve also got a new poster packed for the movie, showing off a bit of animation style, and possibly a hint at some of the locations we’ll see in the new Illumination movie.

In it, we see a frog town (including a toad who wears a backpack similar to Captain Todd), some famous hills of the Mario series in suddenly more epic form, some Mario Galaxy’s floating islands, and of course Peach Castle on top of it all. There are, of course, many little references too – my favorite is the “Antiques” shop which seems to be selling items we haven’t seen in a Mario game for quite some time.

Super Mario: The Movie was originally announced in 2018, and is produced by Nintendo and Illumination. The film will reappear during the September 2021 Nintendo Direct, with Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto announcing the film’s cast.

Chris Pratt will star in the title role (with a different accent), and the cast also includes Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong. It’ll be a while until we see this all-star team take their best shot of famous Nintendo characters, as Illumination and Nintendo have delayed the movie to April 2023.
