At least six people have been killed and 24 injured in a shooting during a US Independence Day parade in the Chicago suburb of Highland Park.
Official data was announced at the press conference, and the weapon was recovered from the scene. Reuters says.
“Officers are searching for the suspect; evidence of the firearm has been recovered,” he wrote on the website of Highland Park County Council.
The suspect, described by police as white between the ages of 18 and 20, is armed and “considered dangerous.”
The perimeter is currently guarded by multiple agencies.
This afternoon, Highland Park County posted on its Facebook page that police were dispatched to the scene following an “incident” at the canceled July 4 Independence Day parade.
Illinois Governor J. Robert “JP” Pritzker was there, the Chicago Tribune reported.
The march began around 10:00 a.m. local time, but was abruptly halted 10 minutes after gunshots were heard, the Sun-Times reported.
