UA woman who hit a motorcyclist while taking a selfie on her cellphone in 2021, causing his death, was jailed for three-and-a-half years and disqualified from driving for 45 months, after pleading guilty in Norwich on Wednesday. Court of England, Death by dangerous driving.

A statement read in court on behalf of David’s wife Joan said losing him had made her life “unbearable”, robbed his teenage son of his father and left his 97-year-old mother heartbroken, Norfolk police said.
No faults were found in any of the vehicles, and none of them were traveling at high speeds, but forensic analysis of the young woman’s cell phone revealed multiple interactions during the trip, including taking selfies, chatting on Facebook and sending text and audio messages.

The last known contact with a cell phone began less than 85 seconds before calling 112 following the collision.
Despite initially saying the motorcycle “appeared out of nowhere,” authorities concluded the collision was caused by the young woman’s failure to recognize danger in time. He also started by saying that his cell phone was untouched, music was playing automatically and Google Maps was working.
“This tragic case highlights the devastating consequences that drivers interacting with their mobile devices while driving can have on others,” warned a senior officer at Norfolk and Suffolk’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit.
“It is a selfish and unnecessary act that has serious consequences for many people,” he added.
