Screening of “Dungeons and Dragons” Trailer at Comic-Con

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among ThievesFrom San Diego Comic Con On Thursday as the first panel held in the huge Hall H, it came with a fantastical trailer and a slew of first-class stars.

Chris Pine Wearing chin-length blonde hair, Michelle Rodriguez, Reggie Jane Page, Sophia Lillis, and Hugh Grant took the stage to a standing ovation. In addition to the trailer, audiences were treated to two clips from the unfinished film, filmed in Northern Ireland during the UK’s COVID lockdown. Payne described the film as having “Spielbergian energy to it”, while Grant said it had “the Monty Python vibe”.

The trailer shows Payne (as poet), Rodriguez (as a barbarian), Justice Smith (as a magician) and Lillis (as a priest) as a band of thieves trying to right a wrong that has unleashed a great evil on their land. They encounter all manner of fantasy creatures – and Paige, as a high-end Paladin (apparently) joins their quest.

Unlike the catchy, dense trailers for recent fantasy series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and House of Dragons, the trailer for Dungeons & Dragons has a freer, lighter tone. From the last shot of Pine gleefully playing his comeback.

One of the longer segments (appearing only in Hall H) involves characters navigating through a maze while other teams try to make their way. Writer and director John Francis Daly said the film features dozens of monsters and creatures, as well as dozens of spells. The filmmakers worked with game publisher Wizards of the Coast to make sure the science was right.

The footage also showed a joking monster – basically a tiger that can display its own image – and the gelatinous cube – basically a giant (and killer) gelatinous cube. The directors joked that the movie featured at least one cameo from a well-known “D&D” player as well as several Easter eggs from the game.

“I wasn’t a huge player, but my nephew, who is 13, is a huge player,” said Payne, who plays Edgin in the movie. He said the film “feels open, light, and lively.”

“It was great to see all of my family light up in this way,” he added of his entire family playing with his nephew. “It doubled slowly and after three hours, I forgot you didn’t want it.”

“[It’s] “One game that should be played in every high school in the country,” Payne said. “You can have the bully and the jock – of course, I’m only speaking in John Hughes’ terms – and I guarantee you no one will remember which class they came from.”

He concluded, “I just wanted to spread the ‘D&D’ gospel.”

Meanwhile, Rodriguez insisted, “You don’t grow up in jersey without playing” D&D. “

“It just brought back all those memories of when I was a kid in the basement swinging with my friends,” she said. “I think role-playing games are great and more people should play them.”

Rodriguez gained 10 pounds of muscle to play the Hulda Barbarian.

Paige, who portrays Bladen, Zink, said he’s always been a “D&D sidekick,” gravitating toward “Chrono Trigger” and “Diablo.”

“I basically grew up as Eddie Monson,” Page said, referring to a character from the fourth season of Stranger Things who is a social outcast and enthusiastic about “D&D.” “I know a little something about the fantasy of escape that gives you no limits.”

Page also experienced extensive film training, including standing and sword training.

“My thighs were killing me,” he said, “and I had the best ass of my life.”

Lillis was such a big fan of the game as a teenager that, after moving, she traveled 20 minutes to her old high school to play in the school’s “D&D” club.

When moderator Karl Jacobs said his notes indicated that Grant had always been a big fan of “D&D,” Rodriguez quipped, “I think you mixed it up with S&M.”

“She’s not wrong,” Hugh responded to the loud laughter from his colleagues and the audience. “I’ve been an ardent dungeon master for years. This is a British pastime. Almost the national sport. I guess that’s why Jonathan’s sons thought of me for this.” Grant will play a rogue named Forge Fletcher.

Chloe Coleman, Jason Wong, and Daisy Head exit the star-studded cast.

Jacobs, a Twitch co-host and co-host of the podcast “Banter With Sapnap and Karl Jacobs,” gave a behind-the-scenes clip that ran with multiple bugs before the cast debuted.

“We remember seeing your faces because we did. Thank you for being here,” writer and director Jonathan Goldstein said at the start of the event.

“We both have a long history with Dungeons & Dragons,” said Goldstein, who used to play the first version with his brother, who “always killed him.”

Dali learned about “D&D” because his character was a fan of the game in the cult series “Freaks and Geeks”. “It’s not just a game, it’s the feeling you get when you play the game,” he said.

Eddie Abraham, Director of Programming at Comic-Con International, opened the session.

“it has been Three years Since we’ve been in this room together! ‘ Ibrahim said before the screening of “Paramount Pictures”.
