Bayern Munich suspended Sadio Mane for one match and fined him after a fight with Leroy Sane after losing the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Manchester City.
Mane will miss Bayern Munich’s match against Hoffenheim on Saturday.
A statement issued by Bayern on Thursday read: “Sadio Mane, 31, will not be in Bayern’s squad for the home match against 1899 Hoffenheim next Saturday. The reason is misconduct by Mane after Bayern’s Champions League match at Manchester City. In addition, Mane will receive a fine.
Mane slapped Sane, 27, leaving his teammate with a bleeding lip before his teammates jumped in to separate the duo.
The former Premier League duo first became involved in an altercation on the pitch which later carried into the dressing room.
Both players trained with Bayern’s first team on Thursday before the Senegalese international was suspended by the German giants.
Mane, who has no history of being involved in such altercations, has been under scrutiny in recent months after a series of mediocre performances.
The former Liverpool striker scored 11 goals in 32 matches during his first season with Bayern Munich.
He doesn’t think there are any pre-existing issues between Mane and Sane.
Sané played the entire match against his former club, City, while Mane replaced Jamal Musiala after 69 minutes.
It seems that Bayern is ready to exit the Champions League quarter-finals after the 3-0 defeat at the Etihad Stadium.
Rodri, Bernardo Silva and Erling Haaland scored the goals for Pep Guardiola’s side as they put one foot in the semi-finals of Europe’s elite competition.
Bayern, who top the Bundesliga table, host Hoffenheim on Saturday, then turn their attention back to the Champions League next Wednesday in the second leg in Bavaria.
