Rafael Leao has signed a new five-year contract with AC Milan.
The 23-year-old, who joined Milan from Lille in August 2018, has been rewarded for helping his side progress to the semi-finals of the Champions League.
He also played a key role in winning the Serie A title last season – the first time Milan have lifted the Scudetto since 2011.
Milan moved to tie Leao to a new contract until June 2028 as his last deal at San Siro was set to expire in June 2024.
Leo is in doubt due to injury in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final against Inter Milan.
He injured his right thigh within the first 11 minutes of his side’s 2-0 league win over Lazio on Saturday.
Leao returned to training on Tuesday but worked separately from his team-mates, and Milan coach Stefano Pioli admitted he would wait until the nearest kick-off to decide on his participation in the first leg.
“Tomorrow (Wednesday) he will try to push himself to the limit to understand if he can participate in the match,” Pioli said.
“If I contact him, it will be because he is fit to play. If the tests are good, he can even start.”
Liao, who has 18 caps for Portugal, has scored 13 goals and 13 assists in 44 games with Milan so far this season.
