Notable looks from the red carpet at the 2022 Oscars
Celebrities appeared on the red carpet, dressed elegantly. Here’s a look at some of the best costumes at this year’s Oscars.
Although the event was postponed from its usual February venue for the second year in a row due to Covid-19, there was hardly a mask in sight, with social distancing restrictions easing from the last time.
There was plenty of red on display as guests arrived at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood, Los Angeles. Kirsten Dunst, Amy Forsyth, and Best Supporting Actress winner Ariana DeBose were among the guests who impressed in shades not unlike the carpet itself.
Elsewhere, stars embraced the return of head-to-head actions with sparkly gowns and lavish silhouettes. Among the more dramatic looks were Jada Pinkett Smith’s emerald Jean Paul Gaultier dress, which featured a massive ruffled train, and Maggie Gyllenhaal’s theatrical-designed Schiaparelli dress embellished with gold leaf and crystals.
The Academy Awards have maintained their reputation as the most restrained of Hollywood’s award ceremonies, however, and many of the best evening wear starlets have opted for the classic sparkle. Rachel Ziegler rocked a chic floor-length black dress and Best Actress winner Jessica Chastain wore a sparkling two-tone dress in bronze and lavender, while the others wore gold and silver, from Lupita Nyong’o in a flared Prada dress to Zendaya, who wore a custom Valentino two-piece suit – white blouse Short paired with a silver disco skirt and short train.
Meanwhile, many of the attendees – including Diane Warren and Jamie Lee Curtis – used the occasion to send messages of support to the people of Ukraine with ribbons or jewelry.
Evening men kept things relatively simple in a classic black tie, though Daniel Kaluuya and “Dog Power” star Cody Smit McPhee were among a handful of stars who opted for colorful outfits (in a Prada aquamarine jacket and pastel Bottega Veneta Tux, respectively).
But it was Timothée Chalamet who stole the show by donning an embroidered lace blazer and high-waisted pants from the Louis Vuitton Women’s Spring/Summer 2022 collection. Then he dressed up his unisex jumpsuit with a shimmering necklace and a pair of black boots.
