Reports of bomb threats refer to the arrival of thousands of Haitian immigrants in a mostly white, working-class population of nearly 60,000 people.

Bomb threats have prompted the evacuation of schools and government buildings in Ohio communities that have drawn unwanted attention. Donald Trump Immigrants in Haiti have proliferated false rumors about eating domestic animals.

The emailed threat said bombs were placed at the homes of Springfield’s mayor and other local leaders, according to municipal spokeswoman Karen Graves.

In a second message, Springfield City Hall promised to bomb locations such as elementary and high schools and state facilities.

Buildings were evacuated and searched with dogs trained to detect explosives.

On Tuesday, during a debate with Democratic presidential nominee and vice president Kamala Harris, Trump repeated unsubstantiated and rumored claims about immigrants smuggling dogs and cats to Haiti.
