Netflix edited a joke about Will Smith from Chris Rock: Selective Fury after Rock misses her during his live show.
During a series of jokes about Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith at the end of the Rock Show on March 4 — the first-ever global live broadcast event — the comedian cracked a joke of his own as he recalled a conversation he allegedly had with Smith during the 2016 Oscars hosting party.

The example Rock cited occurred the same year that Pinkett Smith boycotted the ceremony amid the #OscarsSoWhite movement, which focused on the Film Academy’s history of racial exclusion among its nominees and winners’ lists.
Smith took to the Oscars 2022 stage last March and slapped Rock after he made an unscripted joke about Pinkett Smith’s bald hairstyle, which she wore as a result of alopecia, an immune-related condition. The joke came on the heels of one Rock made during his monologue while hosting the 2016 show, in which he said, “Jada interrupting the Oscars is like me interrupting Rihanna’s panties. I wasn’t invited.”
Rock also made a separate joke at a 2016 party about Pinkett Smith and concussion. “[You] He said, ‘It is not fair that the will was this good [in Concussion] He was not nominated! ” “you are right! It’s also not fair that Will is being paid $20 million Wild West! Yes?”
in THR’s review selective angerChief Television Critic Daniel Fienberg wrote, “Netflix tried to create a live-action stunt out of a rocker that’s been on the road for 10 months, and the only thing that’ll tell you the show was live – after making viewers wait 61 minutes for the inevitable Will Smith material Ones—a rock gasping joke. A joke he’s probably thrown across the country a dozen times.”
The hour-long comedy special, which was highly anticipated to show the comedian’s reaction to being slapped by Smith, finished seventh on Netflix’s US Top 10, but didn’t land at the top of the broadcast network’s global rankings.
