UA video of two Texas zookeepers accidentally caught by a gorilla is going viral.
Pictures posted on TikTok this Thursday show Elmo, a silverback gorilla, entering his exhibit yard at the Fort Worth Zoo in Texas, USA. The animal is later seen following the shadow of one of the zookeepers.
Zoo visitors can be heard panicking and one of them praying for the zoo staff's safety. “God, God help her, God help her, God help her,” says one woman.
Crews move slowly, remain calm, and wait for the right opportunity to exit safely.
The video of the incident, USA TODAY explains, was actually filmed on October 20, 2023. It has over 106 million views.
“Fortunately, there was no physical contact between the keepers and the gorilla, and all staff and animals are safe,” zoo spokeswoman Avery Elander said in a statement Friday.
Elander added that zookeepers entered the yard unaware that the gorilla was still in the habitat due to “keeper error.”
“Every day, zookeepers move the gorillas into their indoor habitat so the zookeepers can put the animals' lunch in their outdoor habitat,” Elander told USA Today.
Elmo is a 34-year-old silverback who has lived at the zoo for years. In 2021, he became a father after the birth of Gus.
