Junior College baseball pitcher faces possible expulsion after attacking a key player

The opposing player had just hit home on Wednesday and was going around the bases when the bowler, who is from Weatherford College, attacked the player from North Central Texas College.

After he was knocked down by the bowler, the primary runner got up and ran to touch the home plate. Weatherford College’s athletics department said that following the altercation, the match was suspended until further notice in the current situation.

The starting player, who was sent off for taunting, was suspended for two games. Additionally, other players from both teams have been suspended for their roles in the aftermath of the incident.

NTJCAC said on Thursday that both teams eventually lost the match.

Weatherford’s statement said the Weatherford Police Department was investigating the incident and taking statements. The athletics department said Wednesday that the bowler faces potential disciplinary action, including expulsion from college.

The conference commented “all NCTC team members who were in the dugout or bowling” and any assistant coaches who have been on the field for two games. He also suspended four additional Weatherford players and two assistant coaches for two games.

NTJCAC said that if North Central Texas College did not have enough players for the next two games against Weatherford, it would have to lose.

“We are shocked and disappointed by what happened in our game today,” baseball coach Jeff Lightfoot and assistant athletic director said on Wednesday. “We do not condone this type of behavior. We have worked hard to build a program of the highest standards. We are completely embarrassed by this incident, and our apologies to North Central Texas College and fans of WC baseball. This type of behavior cannot be tolerated.”

North Central Texas College has also released a file statmentsaying it was investigating the incident and would work jointly with Weatherford College “to determine the full extent of this event.”

“The unfortunate events at Weatherford College will be used as a learning moment for our student-athletes to help ensure that such incidents do not occur in the future,” the NCTC statement added.
