Jeremy Renner A representative said his condition is critical but stable after he had an accident while shoveling snow on Sunday.
“We can confirm that Jeremy is in the hospital in a critical but stable condition with injuries sustained after a weather-related accident while shoveling snow earlier today,” the actor said. “His family is with him and he is receiving excellent care.”
Renner, 51, “suffered blunt force trauma to the chest and orthopedic injuries,” the spokesperson said in a later statement and underwent surgery. The actor was in intensive care on Monday evening.
The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office said it responded to a report of a traumatic injury in the Mount Rose Highway area in Reno, Nevada, at approximately 9 a.m. local time (12 p.m. ET) Sunday.
She said Renner was the only person injured.
“Deputies coordinated with the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District and REMSA Health to arrange medical transportation for Mr. Jeremy Renner via a care trip to a local hospital,” the sheriff’s office said.
She added that the sheriff’s office’s Major Incident Investigation Team is investigating the incident.
It was not clear exactly where he was wounded. Renner has a home in Nevada, according to Associated Press.
In 2015, he published a file Photo to Instagram of the Snowcat, which is used in snowy conditions. It was not immediately clear if the car was involved in Sunday’s accident.
Renner is best known for his role as Hawkeye as part of Marvel’s Avengers. He is also a two-time Academy Award nominee for his performances in ‘The Hurt Locker’ and ‘The Town’.
Renner’s spokesperson said Monday that his family wanted to express their gratitude to his doctors, nurses, first responders and others.
“They are tremendously overwhelmed and appreciative of the outpouring of love and support from his fans,” the statement said.
