Jean-Marie Le Pen, the founder of the National Front, the historic party of the Gallic far-right, was admitted to hospital this Saturday afternoon after falling ill at home in Ruil-Malmaison, outside Paris. Le Parisien.
Le Pen, 94, is considered to be in “critical condition,” according to the newspaper.
In February 2022, Le Pen was hospitalized for several days following a stroke. During that time, he underwent a series of tests that showed “nothing to worry about”.
The openly racist, historic leader of the French far-right handed the leadership of the FN to his daughter Marine Le Pen in 2011, who rebuilt the party, renaming it the Rassemblement National (RN), and capturing new voters. After several public disagreements between the two, both of a strategic and ideological nature, his daughter withdrew him from the formation in 2015.
Jean-Marie Le Pen continued as honorary president until 2018, and a year later, left politics.
During his long political career, he was a member of the French National Assembly several times (first elected 63 years ago) and a member of the European Parliament for 34 years.
