Still bated for breath for more info on developer Insomniac’s upcoming Marvel’s Spider-Man 2? Well, it looks like we might have a release month now thanks to actor Tony Todd, who – almost certainly without official approval – has claimed it will arrive in September.
Todd — whose prolific career includes roles in the likes of Platoon, Candyman and Final Destination — was the He announced that he was expressing poison In Spider-Man 2 in September 2021, at the same time Insomniac confirmed that Yuri Lowenthal and Nadji Jeter will return to voice Peter Parker and Miles Morales, respectively.
Since then, official word on the sequel has been almost non-existent, but Insomniac emerged in December, after a minor leak by a writer about the project, to confirm that it was aiming to release Spider-Man 2 sometime in “fall 2023.”
Now, though, Tony Todd has taken to Twitter claiming that Insomniac is looking more specifically at its September launch. Below a photo of himself in motion capture, Todd responded to an excited fan tweeting that Spider-Man 2 “can’t come fast enough.” writing“It looks like September! Huge hype is coming in August. Commercials start dropping in August, so I’m told. Hold on… and hold your breath! It’s going to be necessary”.
While Todd is certainly well-placed to be on the receiving end of accurate insider information regarding Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the actor has clearly not been tweeting in an official capacity, and it’s anyone’s guess when Insomniac will be ready to share more. That doesn’t mean you can’t circle September in your journal, of course — you might just want to hold on to the pencil until we’re sure.
Insomniac’s take on Venom – based on the post-credits sequence in the first Spider-Man, at least – will inhabit Peter Parker’s close friend Harry Osborn. Last year, actor Scott Porter, who played Osborn in the original game, confirmed that he wouldn’t be returning for the PS5 sequel.
