The Wagner mercenary group is making progress in capturing the Ukrainian city of Bagmut, where some of its fighters have been stationed to protect the wings, after part of the Russian army withdrew, the group’s leader, Yevkhuni Prigozhin, said today.
On Saturday, units of Wagner’s group advanced 550 meters in different directions in Bagmut, Prigozhin said in the group’s audio broadcast.
He further said, “1.78 square kilometers of land” is yet to be captured.
According to Prigozhin, of the 48 multi-story buildings still standing, Ukrainian forces have control over 29.
“Wagner’s divisions are advancing westward. In addition, the artillery and units withdrawn from doing other tasks in Pakmutin are forced to plug the hole in the Berzhovskaya dam (in the northwest of the country). Pakmutin”, he emphasized.
On Friday, Prigozhin warned of a difficult situation for Russian troops on the flanks of Pakmutin, where Ukrainian forces had begun to recapture some territory.
“The wings are collapsing, the front is collapsing, and the efforts of the Ministry of Defense to somehow stabilize the situation will lead to a global tragedy for Russia,” warned the head of Wagner.
In a video of the military summit, the mercenaries suggested they “immediately stop lying” about the situation and invited the Russian defense minister to visit the city.
Nevertheless, Prigozhin said he was confident that Wagner’s group would soon take full control of the city, where fighting had not stopped for months.
