Young climate activist Greta Thunberg was arrested in Germany on Tuesday. According to the Reuters agency, Greta took part in a protest against open-pit coal mining near Lutzerath.
A witness quoted by Reuters says he saw the young activist sitting in a police bus.
Last Sunday, Thunberg was removed by police from the days-long demonstration in Lützerath, a village near Düsseldorf.
The aim of the German government Expand the Karsweiler Coal Mine, which will cause the destruction of the village.
In reports Daily TelegraphThe young activist accuses environmental party Os Verdes of colluding with fossil fuel company RWE’s actions by allowing the village to be destroyed in exchange for ending coal use by 2030.
A group of demonstrators staged peaceful protests, which drew a violent response from German police, according to pictures shared by Greta.
The police justified their detention by arguing that the demonstrators were in a dangerous place, so they forcibly removed them one at a time.
According to WDR Regional Public TelevisionThunberg and other activists were escorted 50 meters from the venue, where law enforcement agents checked their identity documents.
Denied access to the site, their houses, sheds and wooden buildings were demolished, and hundreds of activists protested their eviction for several days, facing a heavy police force.
The operation was considered complete on Monday when the last two activists who had entrenched themselves in a corner of the city voluntarily emerged from a tunnel.
