Google Messages tests delivery and read status checkmarks

After submitting a file new icon And the Preview of many more upcoming features Last week, Google Messages is now testing new status indicators that have been delivered and read.

Today, those with RCS Chat enabled have live “delivery” and “read” receipts. These words simply appear below the last message sent to you between the time of sending and the lock icon for end-to-end encryption (E2EE).

The app now tests the check marks for both. On delivery, Google Messages shows a check mark placed in a circle, while the read status is indicated by a second icon that partially overlaps the first. One positive aspect, and Google’s goal, could be to reduce the visual display of the information that appears below the message. Meanwhile, this design allows Google to explicitly convey both cases.

This is a fairly standard approach to handing/reading in messaging apps from Signal to Telegram. iMessage only uses text, which is the best approach in our opinion. Check marks are ubiquitous and may be familiar to people, but the ability to read “delivered” and “read” requires less translation, no matter how clear the symbols are.

Fortunately, this appears to be just a test received by at least three people. Not released Hardware We checked this afternoon, and hopefully, Google testing will validate the current/legacy message approach for delivery and readability.
