Gervonta Davis stopped Ryan Garcia in the seventh round for the KO win

Gervonta Davis stops Ryan Garcia with a precisely placed body shot in the seventh round of their fight.

LAS VEGAS — Ryan Garcia took a jab, then dropped to one knee, a delayed effect of a stinging liver shot from Gervonta “Tank” Davis that ground Garcia for the second time in their superfight Saturday, and this time, he didn’t beat the count.

The referee reached the count of 10 at 1:44 of Round 7 before 20,842 at a sold-out T-Mobile Arena, an unexpected but decisive finish to the most anticipated boxing match in years.

“I couldn’t breathe,” said Garcia, 24. “I was going to get up again, but I couldn’t get up. … He caught me with a good shot – I don’t want to get up no excuses here – … and I couldn’t recover … He caught me with a body shot.” Good, sneak under me and catch me well.”

With that lone left hand, Davis solidified himself as one of boxing’s best fighters, if not one of the sport’s biggest stars in a 136-pound fight that had been preceded by months of trash talk and hype.

“I am the face of boxing,” Davis said afterwards.
