Full details on CM Punk’s visit to WWE RAW today, why he was asked to leave, and more

AEW’s CM Punk was backstage at WWE RAW today.

Multiple sources reported that Punk was briefly backstage at the Allstate Arena in his hometown of Chicago prior to tonight’s RAW.

PWInsider noted that Punk briefly saw WWE head of content Triple H, which would have been their first in-person meeting since Punk walked out on the company in 2014.

There’s no word yet on who exactly Punk was to visit, but word is that he also met several other WWE talents, including The Miz, but was eventually asked to leave the arena. Fightful adds that Punk was asked to leave by WWE Chief of Security Jim Kelly, but this has not been confirmed, while Bryan Alvarez also said that Punk was asked to leave by security.

Banks reportedly left without incident. A WWE source believes that Punk may have been asked to leave because he was under contract with another company. The same source said this was a call from WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, who wasn’t backstage this week. Vince reportedly made the call that Punk was leaving the venue, and when asked, Punk immediately said his goodbyes and left.

Many WWE talent speculated that Punk’s visit was just a publicity stunt to push for his upcoming return to AEW, which you can read about at this link. As you can imagine, the talent and others were surprised to see Punk there.
