UA recently widowed man from Norfolk, England received a letter from the council about his own death.
Stuart Dobson, 77, was surprised to receive a letter from South Norfolk Council granting his death tax exemption.
The case comes a month after the death of his wife, Ann, to whom he was married for 54 years, causing him “huge emotional upheaval”, according to the BBC.
“I gave a letter to the municipality and said, ‘Do you think I’m dead?’ I asked them that,” he said, according to the same media outlet.
“It’s a total mess, they’re asking me to fill in forms when they think I’m dead, it’s pointless. I don’t need that,” he added.
In his response, Dobson shot back that “only a municipality would write to a dead person and ask them to fill out a form” and questioned the “benevolence” and “rational thinking” of those who wrote the document.
In turn, a spokesperson for the municipality apologized for the “error made by updating the records after the death of Mrs. Dobson”.
“Our fault Mr. Dobson at this difficult time”, says it was a human error.
