LLaura Ramos de Azevedo, the woman whose son, Lucas de Azevedo Albino, 18, dreamed of seeing the death investigation and the suspects accused of the crime, was buried this Saturday in Brazil. Laura, who was suffering from cancer, died at home on Friday the 17th.
According to G1, at the funeral, Laura and Lucas were remembered and honored by other mothers fighting for justice.
For more than four years, Laura fought cancer, but she also fought for justice.
In December 2018, the son, Lucas de Acevedo Albino, 18, was killed during a police operation. Laura followed the witnesses who said that Lucas was hit in the shoulder and that he was fine. But the young man arrived at the hospital dead, so the mother discovered that he too had been shot in the head.
The hat the young man was wearing showed no signs of gunshots, and a photo of Lucas in the car was evidence the woman gave to police and the state attorney’s office. Laura believed that Lucas had been hanged on the way to the hospital.
Laura’s first victory came last month, at the first instructional and pretrial hearing in the case. The second is scheduled for April 3.
Four police officers have been charged in connection with Lucas’ death. Military police insisted that the accused in Lucas’s death were at arm’s length and that an investigation initiated by the corporation, forwarded to the public prosecutor’s office, was ongoing.
