BMonkey, who has led the D Conservative Party since 2014, collapsed on Friday while attending a congress and was admitted to Odense University Hospital, where he died on Saturday, despite efforts to save him.
“He passed away in the midst of what he dedicated his life to,” a statement on his party's website, which is part of the European People's Party (EPP), said.
“He was talking to us about policies for the elderly and foreign policy approaches, and the last thing he felt was a big round of applause from his party colleagues,” added de Conservative.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, in a message on her social media, responded to Pape's death by describing him as humorous and conscientious, dedicated and “conservative in body and soul”.
Pape, born in Bjeringbro in 1971, was a prime ministerial candidate in the 2022 elections, in which the Conservatives won just 5.5% of the vote and 10 seats, due to widespread stories about his personal life before the election.
Previously, between 2016 and 2019, Pape was Minister of Justice in the liberal-conservative coalition cabinet led by Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen.
