HNowadays, nano and microplastics are everywhere: in water, soil and air. They have many negative effects on health, but there are ways to avoid them as much as possible, and recently, A study He found that simply Boiling (and filtering) tap water can help remove nearly 90% of this type of plastic.
More specifically, the study found that “as the water temperature rises from the boiling point of mineral-rich hard water, a calcareous substance called lime or calcium carbonate forms a crust called scale that includes plastic particles.” Scientists.

Over time, “these clogs accumulate like regular limestone, at which point they can be scrubbed to remove nano- and microplastics,” says study leader Eddie Zheng. So, in addition to boiling the water, he suggests, “residues floating in the water can be removed by passing them through a simple filter, such as a coffee filter.”
To achieve these results, scientists collected tap water samples from Guangzhou, China, and added different amounts of nano and microplastics to them. All samples were boiled for five minutes and allowed to cool. Then, the team measured the floating plastic content in the water.
Empirically, researchers have been able to show that 90 percent of the plastics were removed after boiling in water containing 300 milligrams of limestone per liter.. They concluded that in water samples containing less than 60 milligrams per liter, about 25% of the plastics were removed.
