Biden leaves and opens the doors for Kamala. What’s next for the Democrats?

Several names have come out in support of Kamala Harris in the past few hours since Biden’s departure.

The governors of California, Pennsylvania and North Carolina, who have been nominated as Democratic candidates in the North American presidential election, have already endorsed the candidacy of Kamala Harris.

But as journalist Margarita Vaz revealed, the vice president may even be the choice to face Donald Trump in November.

According to international affairs commentator Bernardo Pires de Lima, Kamala Harris should be the Democratic choice.

As of now, the party’s convention is scheduled for a month from August 19 to 22 in Chicago. With Joe Biden out of the presidential race and Kamala Harris confirmed in the race for the White House, more than four thousand delegates will vote for the candidate who will face Republican Donald Trump in the November 5th presidential election.

As for reactions, they appear all over the world. The president of the Spanish government, Pedro Sánchez, praised the “courageous and dignified decision of the American president”, highlighting the “great gesture of a great president who always fought for democracy and freedom”.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said he respected the decision and hoped to work with him for the remainder of his term, noting that Biden would have “made his decision based on what he believes is best for the American people”.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk argued that many of the US president’s “difficult decisions” made Poland, the United States and the world safer, and strengthened democracy and freedom.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was among the foreign leaders who reacted to Joe Biden’s announcement, writing in X that Ukrainians “will forever be grateful for President Biden’s leadership,” which “helped the country through its most dramatic moment in history.”
