The service costs 20 percent less for Best Buy’s Totaltech subscription members, which puts it at around $159. A Totaltech subscription costs $199.99 per year for exclusive pricing, free two-day shipping, and Geek Squad tech support. Best Buy used the software as an expensive way for people to get easier access to the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 that would usually sell out immediately ( Buying Xbox Series X just got a little easier recently, so you probably won’t have to resort to buying a subscription). Starting May 3Totaltech will also be the only way for shoppers to access features like an extended 60-day returns window, as it eliminates the Elite and Elite Plus tiers of the My Best Buy Rewards program that had similar benefits.

Long distance service depends on Best Buy’s Current recycling program, which allows you to give away old tech for free (or a $29.99 fee if you recycle TVs or monitors) at Best Buy stores. There are some exceptions to this program, though stores in Pennsylvania and Connecticut do not accept televisions or monitors for delivery. And if you live in California, there are no delivery fees whatsoever.

Plus, Best Buy actually offers a piece of old technology when you order a replacement. If you buy a large piece of technology through Best Buy and have it delivered, you can Get your old product away For an additional $29.99 for TVs and home appliances or $49.99 for fitness equipment.

Personally, I can’t see myself using Best Buy’s standalone transfer service unless I’m using a large device or a ridiculous number of smaller items (I don’t know anyone with dozens of laptops, MP3 players, or old cell phones lying around). It’s not because I don’t want to recycle, but because I don’t think you should pay nearly $200 to someone to recycle it for you. You can easily deliver small items at Goodwill or another consignment store. As for larger products, such as televisions, you can sell them locally or even put them on your curb for someone to get for free.
