A Moscow warplane “accidentally” dropped bombs on the Russian city of Belgorod


The “accidental” Russian bombing on its own territory injured at least two women and left a crater about 20 meters wide in the center of the city of Belgorod.


Regional Governor Vyacheslav Kladkov visited the affected residents and confirmed that the explosion damaged several buildings and four cars.


The Russian Defense Ministry has already confirmed that an SU-34 fighter jet “accidentally dropped munitions” on the city. “A Sukhoi Su-34 air force aircraft was flying over the city of Belgorod when the anti-aircraft munitions were accidentally discharged., said the Ministry of Defense according to Tas. The investigation is ongoing.


The Defense Ministry did not say what type of weapon was involved, according to Reuters. The Su-34 is a supersonic fighter-bomber.


The incident occurred at 22:15 (20:15 in Lisbon) on Thursday.

Belgorod is a city of 370,000 people 40 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. Fuel and ammunition depots are located in this part of southern Russia.


The neighborhood is flown daily by Russian jets and has been hit several times since the start of the war. Klatkov says 30 people have been killed and more than 90 wounded in bombings in the region since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
