UA 13-year-old boy with a severe milk allergy died after drinking hot chocolate, a coroner’s inquest has heard.
Hannah Jacobs, who had been allergic to milk, fish and eggs since childhood, died within hours of drinking the drink, an inquest heard at East London Crown Court, Sky News reported. Costa Coffee chain, on February 8, 2022.
The victim’s mother, Abimbola Thuile, said she ordered two hot chocolates with soya milk for the journey before taking the teenager to a dental appointment. The woman alleged that she told the employee that Hanna had a severe allergy to cow’s milk and that she asked for the product to be cleaned, to which they “agreed”.
As soon as she took her first sip, the young woman had an “immediate reaction,” starting to cough and immediately saying, “That’s not soy milk.” She rushed to a pharmacy, complaining of chest pains when her “lips and mouth were very swollen” and “itchy”.
The young woman passed out after an injection of adrenaline at the pharmacy. She was taken to hospital where she died.
Abimbola Thuile told the court he felt “anger” because he had “guaranteed the board of the company. [estivesse] I know it’s not a joke.”
