One of the wounded in Tuesday’s attack in Tel Aviv died overnight, bringing the death toll to seven by two Palestinians, Israeli police announced on Wednesday.
The attack took place at the Sterod-Jerusalem tram stop in the Jaffa district in the afternoon, shortly before Iran launched its offensive against Israel.
“The wounded man came [às urgências] In a critical condition (…) and after fighting to save him, doctors had to declare him dead,” the Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv said, according to French agency AFP.
The previous tally was six dead and nine injured.
Officials said two West Bank Palestinians were responsible for the attack, killing one and wounding the other.
The attackers used “An M-16 automatic rifle, several magazines and a knife.”
In a new statement released on Wednesday, police said the two attackers entered a tram parked at the station and carried out the attack. “They opened fire on the passengers”before shooting passers-by on Jerusalem Avenue.
One of the attackers, a 19-year-old, was shot dead in the street, while the other, whose age was not disclosed, was hospitalized in critical condition, police said.
Both are from the southern city of Hebron in the West Bank, a Palestinian territory occupied by Israel since 1967.
Israeli security forces detained several people overnight in Jerusalem and Hebron on suspicion of aiding the two attackers.
As of noon today (local time), the attack has yet to be claimed.
The Greek Foreign Ministry announced that they were among the victims of the attack “A Greek citizen, residing in Jerusalem”.
