Toledo. Spanish police arrest 20-year-old man suspected of killing 11-year-old child – Observer

This Monday, the Spanish Civil Guard arrested a suspect in the death of an 11-year-old child in the Spanish city of Toledo. He was a 20-year-old who lived with his father in the same place, according to a Spanish newspaper.

The crime took place around 10am on Sunday when several children and youths were playing football at the Angel Tartio Sports Complex. The masked assailant entered the playground where the minor, Mateo, was playing with his friends, stabbed him and fled the scene.

The motive for the crime is still unknown to the authorities. However, according to the Spanish press, upon entering the sports complex, the man tried to attack other groups. He first spoke to several youths, aged 14 and 15, who ran away when they saw him. He couldn’t reach them and ended up attacking the group where Mateo and his friends were. “It happened to Mateo like it could have happened to anyone else.”Azel Sánchez, a cousin of the victim’s mother, who acted as the family’s spokesperson, told El Mundo.

According to Sanchez, the attacker entered the sports center through a hole in the three-meter-high fence. “You have to be from the area to know where the hole is,” he added, information confirmed by the newspaper by some residents.
