The Cockpit voice recordings of the Voepass ATR 72-500 that crashed last week in Sao Paulo, Brazil, recorded conversations between the pilots about “powering up” the plane minutes before the crash. You can still hear the screams on the plane in the recordings.
It was carried out in about two hours by a laboratory attached to the Brazilian Air Force. According to Jornal Nacional, cited by G1, an analysis of the cabin’s audio recordings was unable to identify the cause of the plane crash.
An audio transcript from the black box reveals the co-pilot asked what was happening when he realized the plane was losing lift. He said that “delegation” was necessary to stabilize the aircraft and prevent an accident.
The recording ends with a scream and the plane crashing into the ground.
It will be recalled that the twin-engine ATR 72-500, flying between Cascaval and São Paulo, crashed at 1:25pm (5:25pm in Lisbon) on Friday. All 62 passengers on board died.
Among the dead was a Portuguese woman. Gracinda Marina Castelo da Silva is 47 years old and was on the ship with her husband, Nelvio José Hupner, a Brazilian citizen, to whom she has been married for 25 years.
