The President of Brazil, during his speech, during his official visit to Bolivia, after signing several bilateral agreements with Bolivian President Luis Arce, promised that “the normalization of political life in Venezuela means stability throughout South America.”
The Brazilian president said he hoped Venezuela’s elections on July 28 would “continue as usual” and that the results “must be recognized by all”.
Election campaigning in Venezuela began on July 4 and will end on July 25, three days before the election, which pits incumbent President Nicolás Maduro against his main rival, Edmundo González Urrutia, from the United Democratic Platform (PUD) coalition.
The Brazilian president has been on a two-day official visit to the eastern city of Santa Cruz since Monday, during which he met with local businessmen and his Bolivian counterpart, Luis Arce.
Lula da Silva congratulated Bolivia on its integration as a full member of Mercosur and said he hoped to “soon welcome Venezuela back to the Economic Forum”.
After a meeting with several ministers from the two countries, Arce and Lula signed bilateral agreements on issues such as drug trafficking, health, technology and migration.
The Brazilian president’s agenda in Bolivia ends this afternoon, at the end of a business forum with businessmen from the two countries, which is being held in Santa Cruz, the economic engine of the Andean country.
