Kyiv says it has launched a new attack by naval drones in Crimea

sCommenting on the incident, the Russian Defense Ministry said it had destroyed two Ukrainian naval ‘drones’ that were flying towards Crimea during the night.

It also said it neutralized 13 Ukrainian aerial drones near Crimea and in the Krasnodar region in southern Russia.

A Ukrainian security source told French agency AFP that “two Russian patrol boats, initially identified as KS-701 ‘Tunets’, were attacked” during the night.

According to the same source, the attack was carried out by Magura V5 naval drones and near the city of Ivpatoria in western Crimea, which was occupied and annexed by Russia in 2014.

The “special operation” was carried out by the Department of Military Intelligence (GUR), a Defense Ministry structure known for daring operations inside Russia and occupied Ukrainian territories, the source added.

Ukrainian military secret services have shared a short video on social media showing a naval drone colliding with an anchored boat and exploding.

In the daily report, the Russian Defense Ministry made no mention of the strikes claimed by Kyiv, and, as usual, only reported the strikes it said it had intercepted.

The Russian military also said eight ATACMS tactical missiles were destroyed by anti-aircraft defenses over the Sea of Azov near Crimea.

In a separate statement, the Russian Security Services (FSB) announced the arrest of four people suspected of preparing acts of sabotage and terrorism against railways in Crimea on the orders of Ukrainian military secret services.

In recent months, Moscow’s fleet has had to return to the Black Sea in the face of several attacks by Ukrainian drones and missiles.

These victories allowed Ukraine to sink or damage several Russian ships and reopen a sea route for its grain exports.

Unlike the navy, the Russian ground forces regained the initiative at several front points in Ukraine following a failed counteroffensive launched by Ukraine in the summer of 2023.

On February 24, 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine and began “militarization and extermination” of the neighboring country.
