US Secret Service Denies Putin's Order to Kill Navalny

ohUS intelligence services have concluded that Russian President Vladimir Putin was not involved in the death of Russian adversary Alexei Navalny, who died in a penal colony in the Arctic in February.

The information was presented by the Wall Street Journal this Saturday, citing unidentified sources familiar with the matter.

The finding was “widely accepted in the intelligence community and shared by many agencies, including the Central Intelligence Agency, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, and the State Department's Intelligence Division.”

In addition to an analysis of public facts, such as the moment of Navalny's death and the way he covered up Putin's re-election in March, the assessment was based on a series of information, including some from the secret services.

According to the US publication, the country's intelligence agencies have determined that the Russian president did not order Navalny's death, despite Western accusations. However, they did not rule out Putin's responsibility, as the opposition politician, who died aged 47, was targeted by Russian authorities for years, arrested for political reasons and poisoned in 2020.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said he had already seen the Wall Street Journal article this Saturday, which he considered “pure speculation.” “I saw the material and I wouldn't say it's high-quality material,” Peskov told reporters, quoted by Reuters news agency.

It should be noted that Navalny, a declared critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin's regime and a charismatic defender of the fight against corruption, died at the age of 47 under circumstances that are still unclear.

Prison services said he suddenly collapsed after taking a walk at the Arctic penal colony where he was serving a 19-year sentence for terrorism. However, his allies, his widow and many Western leaders blame Putin for his death.
