The Greek MEP’s lawyers released a statement saying he wanted to resume his duties
Eva Kaili, an MEP and former vice-president of the European Parliament, was arrested five months ago as part of investigations into possible bribery from Qatar and is now preparing to return to work. The Belgian public ministry announced that Kylie is no longer under house arrest, which prosecutors said in a statement, announcing her intention to resume her duties at the European Parliament.
In a joint statementKylie’s lawyers, Sven Marie and Michalis Dimitrakopoulos, said: “As of today, Eva Kylie is free to leave her home and to fully exercise all rights and obligations arising from being a member of the European Parliament.”
The legal team insisted that Eva Kaili was “not afraid of the ban on leaving Belgium” and that “she wants to return to Greece after the verdict”.
However, despite this significant development, the ban continues to prevent Caylee from attending plenary sessions of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France. According to their lawyers, cited by Politico newspaper, the restriction will be resolved soon.
A Greek MEP expelled from the Socialists and Democrats (S&D) group, suspected of interceding for Qatar and Morocco for money, has pleaded not guilty.
Belgian authorities seized 1.5 million euro banknotes and carried out the first raids and arrests on December 9, 2022. Qatar and Morocco have nothing to do with the case.
