Um man was fined £100 [cerca de 113 euros] For parking a car for more than 90 minutes in a car park owned by McDonald’s fast food restaurant chain in the United Kingdom.
The incident took place at Festival Heights Retail Park in the English city of Stoke-on-Trent after taking her youngest daughter and some friends to McDonald’s for lunch to celebrate her birthday.
According to the local press, it was stopped for 107 minutes – 17 more than allowed. He explained that the delay was due to the time it took for the daughter to choose and eat the food.
“We pulled into the McDonald’s parking lot and got out of the car. We went to McDonald’s and… [a minha filha] It took a long time to choose and eat. We left, got in the car and didn’t think about it anymore,” he said.
The 45-year-old man only learned of the fine when his mother, who had accompanied him to the restaurant, called him to say he had received a letter saying he had overstayed his parking time.
After calling the establishment “immediately”, he was told to file a complaint with the parking agency responsible for controlling the parking lot.
“They can check the surveillance cameras, they will see that we were in the restaurant. I know McDonald’s can change the situation, but they won’t”, he lamented, “90 minutes is not enough.”
A McDonald’s spokeswoman told the British press that the parking times had been correctly identified and that “if a customer feels they have been fined unnecessarily, they should contact the third party that issued the fine”.
Parkingeye, on the other hand, refused to condone the fines, insisting that “McDonald’s Festival Park car park has prominent and highly visible signs that provide information on how to use the car park responsibly”.
