WORCESTER – JetBlue is adding Orlando and Fort Myers to its flight offering to and from Worcester Regional Airport.
The airline, which currently connects New York and Fort Lauderdale via Worcester, announced the expanded Florida lineup during a press conference at Worcester Regional Airport Monday morning. Governor Maura Healy and JetBlue CEO Robin Hayes were among the officials present at the event.
Healy said, “I don’t know an area in this great state that does it better than Worcester and Central Mass. In terms of people working together. That’s what it’s about today.”
In addition to the new roads, Healy said, Central Mass. It enjoys many opportunities for development and economic opportunities.
“You’re going to have a partner in this administration to get you where you need to go,” Healy said.
The flights to Orlando are a revival of a route that was discontinued during the pandemic.
The Orlando track begins June 15th, with Fort Myers kicking off January 4th. Non-stop flights.
JetBlue also announced that larger aircraft, with a capacity of about 160 passengers, will begin taking off from Worcester. Existing JetBlue planes leaving the airport can carry up to 100 passengers.
Hayes said JetBlue is also expanding its network in Orlando to add routes to the Caribbean and Latin American markets, giving Worcester travelers more options for connecting flights through Orlando.
Mayor Joseph Beattie said JetBlue should consider making Ghana’s capital, Accra, an option for passengers given the city’s Ghanaian community.
Fort Myers Road will have seasonal winter service. The track will initially launch with twice-weekly service with plans to increase daily service in mid-February through the end of Red Sox spring training, which takes place at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers.
“These methods can only be successful with the support and partnership of the community here in central Massachusetts. So we hope everyone gives us a try,” Hayes said.
More flights to Florida have been a major request of Worcester County residents.
Worcester County Sheriff and Musport Chairman Louis Evangelides said the one question he gets asked everywhere he goes is when flights will expand to Florida at the airport.
Daily flights from Orlando to Worcester are scheduled to depart at 11:05 AM and land at approximately 1:54 PM, and flights from Worcester to Orlando are scheduled to depart at 2:40 PM and land at approximately 5:41 PM
Flights from Fort Myers to Worcester are scheduled to depart at 12:21 PM and land at approximately 3:21 PM.
