A neighbor alerted police that they heard noises and that the door of the home appeared to have been forced open. The Guardia Civil immediately went to the scene and located the suspect.
A 35-year-old man with a history of domestic violence was caught by Spanish Guardia Civil officers after he broke down the door of the victim’s home and hid in a cupboard waiting for her. The case took place on Sunday in the town of Vecindario in Gran Canaria, and the army was able to detain the suspect before he could harm the victim, who was flagged as being at high risk.
Neighbors alerted the police after hearing noises and finding the front door forced open.
Officers arrived at the scene, filmed the raids and acted quickly. In images released by the Guardia Civil, the soldiers can be seen going around the house, going through the kitchen and entering the victim’s room. They opened the closet door and found the suspect wearing gloves.
At gunpoint, the suspect was detained, and officers found adhesive tape, scissors, a lighter, a torn-up pamphlet from the victim’s workplace, and a passport-style photograph of the victim.
The suspect was produced in court and arrested.
